Intercation test

Today, Julia, Alex, Marije, and I did an interaction test with the letters with a hardware in them. We want to be prepared for the presentation on Friday. It is our first go/no go moment, and we are very nervous about it. The letters we tested were - E (events), N (nature), S (the shopping) and E(evening/night life).

EVENTS

The interaction on the first E is an equalizer LED strip that reacts to the rhythm of the music. We tested whether the LED strip actually blinks in the rhythm of the music, or not. We also wanted to test the distance that the Bluetooth speaker can be from the LED strip, in order for it to react to music. Therefore, we attach the LED strip to the letter and played different genres of music. It worked pretty well actually.

NATURE

The interaction of the letter N is a pressure sensor that activates servo motors. The N will be covered with a rose bush. Paper roses will be attached to each servo motor, and when the pressure sensor is triggered, the roses (servo motors) will rotate in a different speed. The speed of the rotation depends on the pressure value of the sensor.

For now the servo motors are rotating in one speed, but this can simply be changed. Right now, Alex is focused on the interaction of the letter S.

SHOPPING

The S is the letter with the most complex interaction. Alex is still struggling with sensding the infromation from the app on the tablet to the Neopixel in the letter. He has created a back-up plan in case the interaction we want cannot be realized. The idea is to give the user the opportunity to make their own patterns/color combinations on a application on the tablet and the patterns/color combinations will be displayed on the letter as well.

The letter itself will be coved with a white semi-transparent fabric. For the test we just put the fabric on top of the letter, but the fabric will be wrapped around the letter and the S will be visible then.

EVENING (nightlife)

The second E will represent a night sky. The letter is covered with holes in a shape of stars. The sensors that are in this letter are distance sensor and LED modules. When the user approaches the letter a bright white ligth shines through the holes in the letter.

The test of the letter went well. I can wait to see what the effect will be when I paint the letter in blue. I think it will be awesome and very effective.

I am really happy with the interaction test. Nothing is yet fully finished, but it already looks very cool.

The things that still need to be fixed are the rotation speed on the servo motors, the connection between the Galaxy tab and the Arduino and the values of the distance sensor on the E needs to be smoothened down.
