This weekend, there were quite a few to do's for next Monday, which has already been described in the last team post. For the different categories, I came up with the following ideas.

Name of the Installation

My suggestions:

How to Extend the Installation

There could be a screen and you can pick a letter that you want to design on that screen. Next to the screen a video is running with something that is related to the letter:

E for Eating

N for Nightlife

S for Shopping

C for Culture

H for Home

E for Education

D for Diversity

E for Europe

There could be electronic music because The Netherlands is famous for its DJs and producers. For example, a DJ mix playing in a loop. This would attract people and enhance the fun atmosphere that we want to create. On the downside, it might drive more mature visitors away from our installation.

We could have a night phase. At night, there is a projection mapping of local artworks or of the different sights in Enschede on the installation.

Possible Sponsors

  • Polaroid: We could take the pictures of the people in front of the letters with a Polaroid camera and give away the pictures for free to the visitors.

  • Mediamarkt: For the milk glass/hardware

Technologies to Add Input to the Installation

  • Processing/p5.js --> Draw an image on a screen

  • Drawing an image on paper and scanning it (colour detection)

  • Colour detection of the person who stands in front of the letters and adding suitable colours --> Processing

  • Motion detection --> The LEDs in front of which the person has stood light up and fade again

  • Online design (p5.js) and upload of the result via the database

Output Technologies

  • LEDs

  • Music

  • The letters could turn --> Servo motor

  • Instead of using an LED strip, we could use a modular design made of squares like on Marije’s Rubix Cube. And everytime the colour changes, they turn

  • Projection mapping

  • Flickering lights

  • Light intensity (e.g. depending on proximity)
