Together with my partner in crime, Dzhulia, I was looking for four teammates in Mark & Renés "Speed Dating Café" today. Before the team search started, Mark asked everyone who wanted to be a scrum master to step forward.
Becoming a Scrum Master
I don't love the job of the scrum master because all this organisation that goes along with it is exhausting. Nevertheless, I was the first of twelve volunteers. The reason is that just the evening before, I had set being a scrum master or at least a leader of a part of the project as one of my learning goals. I am very good at organising, so the role of the scrum master fits well to be. But I am not that good at leading people, solving conflicts and responding to all the different personalities and cultural backgrounds in a team yet. I really want to improve on that because it is such an important skill for the work life, so I took it as a challenge.
Finding Team Mates
I immediately felt the weight of a lot of responsibility on my shoulders, because as a scrum master I am not only responsible for making the best possible choices for my team in terms of skills but also for finding people that fit together and that won't cause conflicts in the team. Dzhulia and I already brought in design, crafting and coding skills to the team. We were now looking for video producers, 3D artists, hardware specialists and an additional coder. I also really did not want to work with people that I was already friends with, because I agree with Mark on the problems this can cause.
Luckily, we found two really nice girls - Marijke and Nina - who can help us with design, video and 3D. Just a bit later, Marije and Alex joined our team. They will contribute with their hardware and coding skills. Everyone was really nice, and I am happy that we have found a team with such diverse skills! We are now the team EKT2G3 but of course we are going to look for a cooler team name. Can't wait for the project to take off!
