This week, we launched our social media campaign for myENSCHEDE. Alex and I were originally the social media managers of the team, but Alex has been very busy with the physical computing tasks. While I trust in his social media skills just as much as I trust in his programming skills, we have only one programmer and several team members interested in social media.
Team Photos
Yesterday, I uploaded our group photo on Facebook and Instagram, introducing the team and giving a first hint at our project.

I also had the idea yesterday to put the first letter of the first name of each person on this person's photo, since we are the Letter Team. Marijke is responsible for creating the letters. The first one she created was my photo. My team mates thought that I should be introduced first, because I am the Scrum master. This is the result, and I really like it!

Writing the Captions for the Team Members
For every good social media strategy, there needs to be good content. While I am semi-happy with the content that I thought of so far, I had to make sure that I was very happy with the implementation of this content. My experience with internship applications has taught me that creativity and craziness are often good ways to address a young audience - especially since we want to go for a curious, explorative target group.
So I tried to keep my captions funny but not offensive. I also asked all the team members to check if they were okay with what I had written for them, and luckily, they liked it. My caption was uploaded today with my photo. These are the texts:
Dzhulia
This is Dzhulia, designer, builder and architect of our letters and pedestal. After surviving two years of study projects and lots of long nights while always managing to master the impossible task of creating the most detailed designs, she has truly proven and perfected her skills. When it comes to arts & crafts, (almost) nothing can scare her anymore - not even long discussions with our teachers Douwe & Harry and late-evening prototyping sessions.
Marije
This is Marije, our hardware and construction hero and feelgood manager. Her appreciation of Rubix Cubes goes as far as having built one on her own, which is not only pretty cool but also explains her practical knowledge of all things hardware and building materials. Marije is a true team player: If it’s about checking how many Arduinos Link still has in stock or strengthening the team spirit with a trip to Room Escape, Marije is our girl!
Marijke
This is Marijke, graphic and 3D designer. Thanks to her mad Maya skills, Marijke has given us the most amazing 3D of our installation we could ask for, and she’s been a constant guide in the process of concepting when everyone else was getting lost in the deep ocean of ideas. If you are thirsty for high-quality visual content, search no more: Marijke has us covered with nice designs for both social media and flyers that you’ll find in Enschede soon!
Alex
Meet Alex, our man for physical computing and social media. He came all the way from Spain to help us build myENSCHEDE! Hardware tests with dubious results can’t shatter our Arduino pro’s confidence, and he always has several good ideas for solutions when things don’t work out as planned. Alex is a dedicated seeker for sponsors and a great writer of shopping lists, keeping things organised and (also thanks to his height) the overview.
Nina
Meet Nina! She’s the girl who never fails to keep us in style. Besides being the best-dressed member of the team with the cutest fashion sense, she’s also a life saver when it comes to all sorts of last-minute design tasks. Photography and graphic design are her passion, so if you’re following us on social media (which you really should!) brace yourselves for some sweet visuals created by Nina!
Julia
This is Julia, master of disaster (scrum), social media girl and web techie. Testing the team’s patience with loooooong sprint planning sessions, she bravely navigates us through the dark labyrinths of scrum. You might see her face a few times in our stories on the gram. She occasionally has those weird nightmares in which she has to wrestle with monsters named databases, APIs and PHP. Oh wait, damn… the nightmares are real.
Other Things
I started inviting my friends to like our Facebook page and asked my team mates to also do so. On Instagram, I kept following other accounts and we have become pretty succesful on the gram. We already have 33 followers that we pretty much gained within three days. As you can see, we also followed a lot of Enschede related accounts, which also brought us a large share of our current followers.

My goal is also for now to keep the Instagram stories going. There should not be any moment in which there is no story on our Instagram. But we have to be careful that the stories are also interesting and meaningful: Nothing is a greater turn-off than a boring story.
