Today, Dzhulia and I went to Hubo twice in order to buy some materials and get new wood for our pedestal. After receiving quite negative feedback from both my team mates and the teachers, the decision was clear that we had to go to Hubo and get MDF plates and have them professionally cut. The cuts of the wood that I had received from my boyfriend's dad were really good, but unfortunately the textures and surfaces of the wood pieces differed too much.

Ordering the Wood Plates and Buying Paint

During our first visit at Hubo at around 1pm, we first checked out the wood that we were going to need for our installation. The very first thing we looked at were the wooden poles that can serve as possible legs of the pedestal. We looked for a decent price and an acceptable quality, meaning that the wooden legs should be wide enough to hold the installation.

After having decided to buy 4 46x46x270 legs, out of which we can make 4 legs with the height 120 cm and 4 legs with the height 135 cm, we took a look at the MDF supplies they had at Hubo. We first wanted to get MDF with a thickness of 12cm but when we saw the wood, we also saw that it was a bit bendy, and we don't want that for our pedestal. So we decided to go for the wood with a thickness of 16 cm instead.

Next, we needed someone who could help us with the cutting. Luckily, we found a nice employee at Hubo who helped us out. We explained to him what we wanted to build:

Then, we showed him on a piece of paper which dimensions we wanted him to cut.

Not only did he listen to our building plans and but he also discussed everything with us. He explained to us that we could make the pedestal more stable by using several of the side pieces and place in inside the pedestal. Thereby, we could save some weight, since it would be possible to switch to a thinner MDF type. Dzhulia and I did not want that though, because we did not exactly know if it would work out. We decided to stick with the 16 cm MDF. Also, the Hubo employee showed us alternatives to the wooden legs that we had picked, but again, we stuck with our original choice. He told us that it would be no problem to cut the wood now and that I could pick up the cut wooden plates at 5pm, as planned.

Later, we checked out some of the bolts that we wanted to use to attach the legs. They were pretty expensive, so we opted for some thinner ones. Dzhulia suggested to first ask her brother Mario what he thought about this before spending €20 on bolts.

We also asked the Hubo employee which kind of wood primer and paint we needed and he advised us. That was some good service at Hubo!

Picking Up the Wood

At 5 pm, I returned to Hubo in order to get the wood and meet my landlady, Christine, who had agreed to transport the wood in her big car. Everything worked without problems: The wood was cut and prepared as agreed and we were able to put it into the trunk of her car.

In total, I spent almost €100 at Hubo today!

Social Media

I have been quite active on the Instagram stories this week, and I did not want to make an exception with Hubo. I documented how Dzhulia and I went to Hubo and picked our stuff. Later, I also posted a positive review of Hubo's service in the story of myENSCHEDE. The cool thing is that @huboxlenschede reposted this on their story!
