This week, after having finished up the technically most challenging parts of the website, I went on with the easier sites that just display information. A few days ago, I already completed the Nature page, and the setup of the culture page is exactly the same.

Research

Like with the nature page, I first had to do research about the most interesting locations in Enschede, this time related to culture. Again, most of my research was based on the culture section of uitinenschede.nl. Last time, with the Nature page, I had a few gaps in my research because I forgot to write down the coordinates of the locations for the navigation, forgot to download the photographs and this time, I also needed the links to the websites of the locations. Since I wanted to avoid having to do research twice again, I created an Excel spreadsheet in which I entered:

  • The venue

  • The category (Museum, Theatre, Music or Gallery)

  • The text for the info box

  • The URL for the homepage of the venue

  • The geographic location in Enschede (e.g. Central Enschede)

  • The coordinates of the location

  • The URL of the image I downloaded

I also downloaded all the images before starting to program.

Coding

Coding the Culture page was not difficult: I just had to copy the code from the Nature page and adjust it a bit because culture has four categories, while nature only has two. The categories of culture are: Museum, gallery, theatre & music.

The result looks as follows with the example of "Museum", Wilminktheater and the website of the Wilminktheater as well as the route to the venue.
